Game of kings and the king of games, shandoor polo



From ancient times to present era sports has been always one of the most attention-seeking parts of human life and it is always been considered vital for one's life. Differing from region to region around the globe and culture to culture from one continent to another on the Earth, the spirit of sports has been always different from differing in the type of sports being played. Polo is world-widely recognized as the game of kings and king of the game, Its also well known for being the royal game.


Shandur polo ground 


Shandoor Polo Ground is naturally designed ground, having small hills on all four sides of the rectangular ground and is situated at an altitude of approximately 12,500 feet (38000 meters) above sea level, enjoying the title of the highest polo ground of the world. It is well-known as the Roof of the World. this polo ground is located in District Ghizer, Gilgit–Baltistan, Pakistan. Being situated at such a great height playing polo here is not that easy just because the area is less sufficient with atmospheric oxygen so playing polo at shandoor is considered not less than playing polo on the moon. the type of polo been played here is different from standard polo because polo here has no rules at all it is a kind of freestyle polo. 


Shandoor polo festival  


Shandoor polo festival is one of the biggest festivals in Pakistan as well as in the world. It is been played annually in the month of July since 1935 when it was played for the very first time. People from different countries come to Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral just to attend this festival. This festival has been one of the tourist attractions spot of the world and Shandoor polo festival which is collectively event of 3 to 4 days where polo matches are been played between different teams of two provinces KPK and Gilgit Baltistan.
